Joseph Strikes Again, Rattling Australia’s Batting in Bridgetown
West Indies vs Australia 1st Test Series Playing 2025
After winning the toss, Australian captain Pat Cummins chose to bat first at Kensington Oval. By lunch, the visitors were struggling at 3 for 65. Opener Usman Khawaja (32*) and vice-captain Travis Head (21*) were holding the fort, both unbeaten at the crease.
Earlier, Sam Konstas’ much-anticipated Test debut was cut short, lasting only 14 deliveries. Joseph delivered an excellent in-dipping delivery that struck the young opener on the pads. West Indies skipper Roston Chase successfully reviewed the on-field not-out decision, with ball-tracking technology confirming the ball would have hit leg stump.
Joseph should have had a second wicket just two balls later when Cameron Green chased a wide delivery and edged it toward the gully. Unfortunately for the Windies, debutant Brandon King spilled a straightforward catch that hit him square in the chest.
Luckily, that dropped chance didn’t prove too costly. Just a few overs later, Green fell for just 3 runs — again to Joseph. The tall Western Australian was dismissed in a manner almost identical to his double failure in the World Test Championship final against South Africa: reaching out with hard hands and edging into the slip cordon.
