‘The Running Man’ Trailer: Glen Powell Runs for His Life in Edgar Wright’s Stephen King Adaptation
Following standout roles in Hit Man, Anyone But You, and Twisters, Glen Powell is taking his rising stardom to new heights as the lead in Edgar Wright’s upcoming reimagining of The Running Man.
This modern take is based on Stephen King’s 1982 novel, which was famously brought to screen in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead. The story is set in a dystopian future where a violent reality TV show forces its contestants—known as “runners”—to evade elite killers called “hunters” in a deadly chase for survival.
According to the official plot, these runners must survive for 30 days while being relentlessly pursued by trained assassins. The entire ordeal is broadcast live to a bloodthirsty audience, and with each passing day, the cash prize grows larger. Glen Powell stars as Ben Richards, a blue-collar worker who volunteers for the deadly challenge, hoping to win enough money to save his gravely ill daughter. He’s lured into the high-stakes show by its flashy and cutthroat producer, Dan Killian, played by Josh Brolin.
But what begins as a desperate fight for survival soon evolves into something much bigger. Ben’s determination, instincts, and refusal to play by the show’s rules quickly turn him into an audience favorite—and a serious threat to the very system that created the spectacle. As the ratings soar, so does the risk, and Ben must not only escape the hunters but also a nation obsessed with his downfall.
Edgar Wright, celebrated for his dynamic storytelling and bold visual style, returns to the director’s chair after Last Night in Soho, bringing his trademark energy and creativity to this adrenaline-fueled thriller.
The film features an impressive cast alongside Powell:
Colman Domingo, acclaimed for his performance in Sing Sing, steps into the spotlight as the charismatic game show host Bobby Thompson.
Katy O’Brian, known for her standout role in Love Lies Bleeding, appears in the film as one of the contestants taking part in the dangerous game.
Katy O’Brian, best known for her role in Love Lies Bleeding, joins the lineup as a fellow challenger in the high-stakes competition.
Michael Cera as Bradley, a rebellious insider aiding Ben from the shadows
The script is a collaborative effort between Edgar Wright and Michael Bacall, the talented duo known for fan-favorite films like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 21 Jump Street, and Project X.
The Running Man is slated for a November 7 theatrical release, brought to audiences by Paramount Pictures.
