The Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York was temporarily shut down on Wednesday morning following a multi-bus collision, according to an alert issued by NJ Transit at 7:40 a.m.

The alert mentioned that NJ Transit buses traveling to and from the Port Authority Bus Terminal were redirected to Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn Station, and Hoboken Terminal.. According to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), the first emergency call came in at 6:05 a.m., reporting a collision involving two coach buses near West 41st Street. Initially, 14 people were reported injured, but the number was later revised to 12. The FDNY said 10 individuals sustained minor injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. One person suffered more serious injuries and was taken to Bellevue Hospital, while another declined medical treatment at the scene.NJ Transit’s alert did not provide additional details about the cause of the crash or indicate how long the Port Authority would remain closed.

The incident added to what was already a difficult morning for commuters. Earlier, NJ Transit had issued a warning about 20-minute delays to and from Penn Station because of a separate train disruption during peak travel hours. The Port Authority also noted significant delays for traffic coming from New Jersey through the Lincoln Tunnel, as a result of the bus accident.
