Free agent sharpshooter Duncan Robinson has agreed to a three-year, $48 million deal with the Detroit Pistons.
As part of a sign-and-trade deal, the Detroit Pistons are adding Duncan Robinson to their roster, with Simone Fontecchio being sent to the Miami Heat in return.
Duncan Robinson’s agent, Jason Glushon, looked into several opportunities in the market, including a potential reunion with the Miami Heat .However, Robinson chose to decline his $20 million player option on Sunday, officially entering free agency.
Detroit originally planned to sign Malik Beasley to a three-year, $48 million contract, but those negotiations were put on hold after news surfaced that Beasley was involved in a federal gambling investigation.
At 31, Robinson brings valuable experience and shooting ability to the Pistons, who are looking to boost their offense—especially with Beasley no longer in the picture. Robinson is regarded as one of the NBA’s top three-point specialists, with a career shooting percentage of 39.7% from beyond the arc. Since the 2019–20 season, he has made 1,192 three-pointers, ranking him eighth across the league during that stretch.
He now joins Caris LeVert as one of Detroit’s key free-agent acquisitions this offseason. The Pistons are counting on these two experienced players to help shift momentum after last season’s tough 14-win run, aiming to build a roster strong enough to compete for a playoff spot.

Duncan Robinson played seven seasons with the Miami Heat, becoming the team’s all-time leader in made three-pointers with 1,202 to his name. He prepared for this move by opting out of his $19.9 million contract earlier in the week.
In Detroit, Robinson is expected to play a more prominent role.In the 2023–24 season with Miami, Robinson played in 74 games, starting in 37 of them, and averaged 24.1 minutes per game.. His c areer-high in playing time came in the 2020–21 season, when he averaged 31.4 minutes per game.
Last season, he posted an average of 11.0 points per game and hit 190 threes. Over his 423-game NBA career (283 starts), he holds an average of 11.3 points per game. During his first three years in the league, he made an impressive 752 three-pointers—including a career-best 270 during the 2019–20 season, tying for the 25th highest single-season total in NBA history.
Before his professional career, Robinson spent his final three college years at the University of Michigan. He was part of the Wolverines squad that made it to the 2018 NCAA National Championship Game, ultimately falling to Villanova.
